B is for..........

B is for Bueller..........Bueller.

Maybe this is cheating, but I wrote this a couple years ago for A-Z. I was going to use Bridesmaids for B, but that voice just kept nagging at me, you know the one. Bueller..........Bueller..........Bueller. So I went back and took a look at what I'd done before and decided it still works.

The 80's gave us a lot of great teen movies, perhaps none better than Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In high school, a bunch of us would act out scenes from the movie at parties. Such was the pull of Ferris Bueller that this often made us the hit of said parties. It was a glorious time indeed.

I've always thought they should make a sequel. Ferris is producing a play on Broadway and Cameron is a banker on Wall Street. Ferris has to meet with an investor threatening to walk, but his marriage has just fallen apart and he can't handle the idea of groveling for money. He gets a message from Sloan, whose own marriage has recently imploded, on facebook that she's coming to the city and would love to get together. Cameron is working on a big project, but Ferris coerces him to ditch work. The three old buddies wander NYC, avoiding Ferris's investor, Cameron's boss, and possibly Sloan's ex. This is just a rough outline of course, but you can see the possibilities, can't you?

I saw this recut trailer for Ferris Bueller a while back, and it's kind of interesting. Imagine Ferris repackaged and marketed as an indie film, full of irony, angst, and epiphany. It makes me wonder if I missed some deeper meaning in the film.

  3. I love Ferris Bueller and, like you, I'd give anything if the powers-that-be would do a sequel. I enjoyed watching the recut trailer but, boy, the movie sure loses most of its charm that way!

  4. You know, I have seen this and it's an absolute classic of my childhood, but I actually can't remember much about it except Ferris and a car. hehe. I need to do a re-watch for sure!

  6. I just read something the other day that made me shudder. Matthew Broderick, who played Ferris, is now the same age as Ben Stein was when he played the economics teacher in the movie. Blah!

    1. You know what, you're right Laoch. The setting would have to be Chicago.

  11. Loved loved loved Ferris Bueller. That movie was mostly hilarious, BUT the best friend, Cameron, did have serious issues with his father. I think the recut trailer is really picking up on that big-time. Cameron's father was seriously not involved in his son's life. He was way more into his sports car and was pretty neglectful of his own kid. That show touched on some pretty serious that goes on without hammering it in your face. I had forgotten about that pool scene until I saw it again in the trailer. That was rough.

Favorite scene in the movie: the parade when they sang Twist and Shout and it was caught on TV. That was full of awesomesauce.

  12. The car scene in that movie was priceless. I wanted to go back to school just so I could do all that in one day! Great choice for B.

  14. This is one of my favorites. I just asked for a day off from work so a friend and I could go to the baseball game. Our conversation included a parade and a classic Ferrari.

Enjoying the A to Z challenge.
