L is for.........

L is for.........Lloyd.

Lloyd Dobler may be a fictional character, but I owe him one.

A young woman sat in the now deceased Uptown Bar and Grill in Minneapolis, sharing a drink with a friend on a cold winter night.

She had just met a guy, who the friend happened to know a little bit. The friend said the guy was "a real Lloyd Dobler."

That meant something to the young woman, something good.

Now I'm not saying my wife married me because a mutual friend of ours compared me to Lloyd Dobler.

But it sure didn't hurt.

Ever been compared to a character from a movie?

  1. I have never heard of Lloyd Dobler, I will hang my head in shame. Maybe I have been compared to a movie character but probably when there was alcohol involved and now I forgot...

  2. Sad to say, i haven't been compared to one yet, but i'm glad you were in this way. Sometimes it's such small things that make a difference in life.

  3. This is another one of my all-time favorites. You are on a roll!!! I love this scene. As soon as I saw Lloyd Dobler, I thought of 3 things: 1) I gave her my heart, she gave me a pen, 2) The awkward dinner table scene about sold and processed segue into kickboxing, 3) Lloyd with the boombox over his head playing Peter Gabriel's song In Your Eyes. John Cusack was golden in the 80s.

  4. I wish John Cusack could revive his career. He suffers from the "I got old and am no longer hot" trap that Hollywood has in store for all men above the age of 30.

For their record, Joan Cusack is awesome in Shameless.

  5. Ack! I don't know who Lloyd Dobler is, but he seems a little short on ambition...at least when it comes to selling, buying, and producing things. :)

I get compared to Sarah Connor occasionally (T2 version). :P

  6. Too funny! Sadly I am with the "I don't know who Lloyd Dobler is crowd" but...I watched the clip and I DO recognize him and I think the clip is hilarious.
I likely only get compared to by middle school kids to whatever bitch teacher is currently in middle school vogue :)

  9. Oh be still my heart. I've been totally in love with Lloyd Dobbler since 1989. I love John Cusack in general but he was too adorable for words in this one.

I don't think I've ever been compared to a movie character. With my luck, if it did happen it would end up being someone not at all complementary ha.

  11. What a great post. You know I stopped following you because I tend to be hyper loyal to those who ping back and lose connections with those who never/rarely do and now I'm all sad I missed your A-Z. These posts are great!

All right, I'm gonna follow you again and try to hang on even if I don't hear from you for another year. :)
